The Earth Observation of Climate Change Group (EOCC), Led by Prof. JIA Gensuo, is dedicated to understanding climate, ecosystems, and land-atmosphere interactions through the use of field experiments, satellite remote sensing, airborne missions, modeling, and synthesis. We focus on spatial patterns, regional heterogeneity, variability, and scales of climate change issues, particularly issues relevant to East Asia. EOCC also strives to serve society by directing our observation and synthesis to decision making and public awareness.

Digital Belt & Road Science Program (DBAR) was launched in December 2016 to to promote scientific cooperation along the Belt and Road in the areas of geoscience, data, technology, and applications, and to serve the UN’s 2030 sustainable development goals. Prof. JIA Gensuo was elected as member of DBAR Science Committee and co-chair of DBAR-Envi working group.

China National Climate Change Assessment just completed and released its third assessment in December 2015,  and Prof. JIA Gensuo served as coordinating lead author for the chapter on climate effects of changing terrestrial ecosystems.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has recently started its flagship Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6) assessment, and Professor JIA Gensuo is appointed as coordinating lead author (CLA) of GEO-6 to lead the Asia-Pacific outlook. The upcoming GEO-6, expecting to be launched in 2016-2017, will build upon regional assessment processes and create a comprehensive picture of the environmental factors contributing to human well-being, accompanied by an analysis of policies leading to greater attainment of global environmental objectives and goals.

APN-START International Training on Ecosystem-Climate Interactions was held from September 8-20, 2014 at CAS Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) in Beijing. The training was delivered to 16 international young scholars from 14 Asia countries by experts from China, Australia, and USA. Synthesis Book "Towards a Sustainable Asia: Environment and Climate Change" (2012) is published by the Springer-Verlag. Sponsored by the Association of Academies of Sciences in Asia (AASA) and contributed by scientists from 11 Asia academies, the report reviewed and synthesized ongoing and future environmental changes, with guidelines of best practices of adaptation and mitigation in Asia.Professor JIA Gensuo serves as the coordinator and first author of the book.
